Chopping Spree is a fun, fast-paced slasher that cleverly pivots to something more ambitious and interesting. A group of teens are stalked by a masked killer in a shopping mall, but what seems like a simple plot thickens considerably. I liked how the author twists the traditional slasher narrative and even makes the killer an empathetic character with a reason for his murderous rampage.
The story needed a bit more buildup at the start for me as it kicks off before we really get to know the characters before the bodies start falling.
The use of songs was a touch on the nose, but overall this was a good Fear Street-esque (the films) romp with added skewering of capitalism and greed.
